allegiance is a series of large paper flags based on the American flag design. They are made from couching paper pulp against the exterior bricks of the Pioneer School in Zanesville, OH to create a flag following the pattern of the school bricks and imprinted with its texture.
The color choices, titles, and process are my meditations on what allegiance means. What do we learn through our institutions? What must we unlearn? Who do we serve? How can we mend?
